Calon Films is a Welsh centric independent film & TV production company. Born out of the vision from 6 proud Welsh creatives, on the back of a community arts initiative entitled The Iniquity (Camwedd) Project.
The raison d’etre of Our Company is to tell Welsh stories through the medium of film & Television. Work is already well underway on our debut feature ‘INIQUITY’ – The True Story of Wales’ First Working Class Martyr, Dic Penderyn and the Merthyr Uprising of 1831. The production will be a joint venture between Calon Films and the award winning production company Sterling Pictures.
Directed by the Welsh BAFTA-winning director, Chris Crow (The Lighthouse – 2016), the project aims to not only celebrate a pivotal moment in the history of Wales but to create our own history in securing a Royal Prerogative of Mercy in the name of Richard Lewis (Penderyn). The production team has secured private equity investment from 2 Executive Producers in Brian Jones MBE (Castell Howell Foods), Professor Sir Christopher Evans OBE (EDX Medical). A dialogue for additional funding is also ongoing with the Senedd body Creative Wales and The National Lottery Heritage Fund.
